From Zero to $ 14,640: Recent auctions for vintage William Spratling

2010 August 1

Even if an item bears the most collectible name in the world of vintage Mexican silver – William Spratling – it might not sell at auction. Last month auctions held by Skinner and Bonhams & Butterfields both included works by William Spratling, but in one case, the items didn’t sell. On the other hand, a necklace estimated to sell for $ 6,000 to $ 8,000 brought in $ 14,640 (including the buyer’s premium). You just never know….
