Vintage Bernice Goodspeed sterling silver and turquoise pin
The Vintage Silver Shop, an eBay store and top-rated eBay seller, is currently running an auction for a pin by Bernice Goodspeed. Goodspeed was a cultural anthropologist with a keen interest in pre-Columbian archeology. She and her artist husband opened a gallery in Taxco, Mexico in the 1930s and sold his work along with pre-Columbian artifacts. She designed and created jewelry and tableware and sold it through the gallery. Many of Goodspeed’s pieces reflect Aztec and Mayan influences.
From the seller’s description:
What a tiny work of art in this Aztec butterfly pin by hard to find Taxco artist, Bernice Goodspeed. This fabulous piece is in sterling silver and crushed turquoise gemstones. A most unusual and interesting pin, it is early, circa 1945 and closes on the back with a well working safety clasp….
