Vintage Spratling tulip necklace most watched on eBay now
Right now, a vintage tulip motif silver and amethyst necklace by William Spratling is the most-watched auction in the realm of vintage Mexican silver jewelry on eBay. There are about 80 watchers as this is posted.
Excerpts from the seller’s description:
This is an EXTRAORDINARY silver and amethyst necklace that was hand wrought in Taxco, Mexico, circa 1940 to 1945, by world renowned silver maestro, WILLIAM SPRATLING (1900-1967)…This necklace is masterfully crafted in one of Maestro Spratling’s most cherished and recognizable designs that incorporates hands holding amethyst tulips ~ this piece was made during Spratling’s first design period, circa 1940 to 1945 ~ it is made of 980 silver which is almost PURE silver and is superior to sterling silver 925…Excellent vintage condition… HALLMARKS: “SPRATLING, WS (conjoined), MADE IN MEXICO, SPRATLING SILVER”. WILLIAM SPRATLING and this hallmark (photo S-61) are shown on pages 179-192 of Bille Hougart’s highly respected source book, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition). According to Mr. Hougart, Maestro Spratling used this particular hallmark from 1940 to 1945, during his first design period…
