Amazing vintage Mexican silver alterpiece by MATL

This is quite an interesting looking vintage MATL piece, offered for sale on eBay by a seller in Mexico City who has sold quite a bit of vintage Mexican silver on eBay. It is silver with turquoise, coral, and amethyst.

The seller describes it as “an altar set with turquoise beads and cabochons, coral beads, two carved pieces of white plaster and eight pyramidal carved amethysts; also this piece was worked with applied wire and embossing.”

It is 8 ¼ inches high, 6 3/8 inches wide, 3 inches deep and marked “MATL.”

Mexican silver necklace and earrings set with turquoise and coral. Signed “Matl 925″. Circa 1945. Pendant 2-3/8″ x 2-1/2″ on 18″ necklace. Screw back earrings 1-3/16″. CONDITION: One small piece of coral absent on necklace link. One piece turquoise absent on clasp. Estimated Price: $600 – $800. Minimum bid: $ 300

Among the most-watched auctions for vintage Mexican silver jewelry on eBay right now are some gorgeous pieces from greats such as Matl, Margot de Taxco, and Victoria.

One of them is a sterling silver and gemstone bracelet by Adan Alvaredo, in the style of Matilde Eugenia Poulat (Matl), after 1978, Taxco. Alvarado made jewelry for Rancho Alegre in addition to making his own.
