The Maciel Silver Factory in Mexico City made high quality silver holloware, flatware, and jewelry. It was in operation from 1930 to 1970 and had an excellent reputation.

A Mexican sterling footed oval tea tray with pierced handles
L. Maciel, Mexico City
Length: 23in; (83 oz. 6 dwts.).
Condition: General marks, scratches, rubbing and tarnishing commensurate with age and use. With more noticeable scratches and scuffs to center of tray. Not monogrammed.

Lot 1412 (shown above), “CONTEMPORARY MEXICAN SILVER JEWELRY,” consists of eighteen pieces including brooches, pendants, rings, bracelets and a necklace, all with various stones. Artists include Tono, Los Castillos, Sigi, Ballesteros, etc. 320.7 gs., necklace 16″ x 3/4″ Estimate: $200 – $300; starting bid $100.

Lot 760 is a Maciel hand-hammered pitcher, estimated at $ 500 – $700:

“MEXICAN HAND-HAMMERED SILVER PITCHER BY MACIEL
In melon-form with applied leaf handle. Marked Maciel – Made in Mexico, Sterling”. Height 10″. Approx. 37.8 troy oz.”

Lot 761 is a chased silver tray marked J. Vigueras, estimated at $200 – $300:

“MEXICAN SILVER TRAY BY J. VIGUERAS
In circular form with nine chased masks on a mottled ground bordered with a band of spears. Sunburst rim. Marked J. Vigueras – Made in Mexico – 925M”. Diameter 12″. Approx. 20.0 troy oz.”

The third lot, #763, is for a Sanborn’s three-piece hollowware set, estimated at $300 – $500:

“THREE PIECES OF SANBORN’S MEXICAN SILVER HOLLOWWARE
In lobed form with chased floral decoration. Consists of an open sugar, creamer and oval two-handled tray. Marked Hecho en Mexico D. F., R. R.” in circle and “Sanborns, Mexico, Sterling”. Length of tray 9¾”. Approx. 21.0 troy oz.”  CONDITION: Overall good condition. Minor surface scratches to center of tray.”
